Genesis 7:1-24 contains God's command to Noah to prepare his family, animals, livestock, and all kinds of animals to enter the ark because God will wipe out everything on earth with a flood. All the springs of the great ocean were split open, the windows of heaven were opened, and heavy rain fell on the earth for forty days and forty nights. There is one important question regarding Genesis 7, namely, why was there a flood? Reviewing back to the previous chapters of Genesis, there is one answer, namely because of sin. Sins and curses passed down from Adam.
From the book of Genesis 7, there are two important ideas that the author can share with the reader. The first one is Noah’s faith. With the faith that Noah had, he became a righteous man before God. It is written in Genesis 7:1 that "...for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation." By his faith, he believed and walked with God. He followed every command and word that God said to him. The second idea is Noah’s obedience. Genesis 7:5 says “And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him.” Noah did everything that God commanded him. He never complained at all, even though at that time he was insulted by people who did not believe in God. The last idea is God saved Noah and his household. God said unto Noah “come thou and all thy house into the ark...” For seven days after Noah and his family entered the ark, there was no sign of impending heavy rain, and during this time, their faith was tested until the eighth day came when dark clouds covered the sky, followed by thunder and lightning, and then heavy rain covered the earth. The commandments that God gave to Noah were not only a blessing to Noah himself but also a blessing to his family. So God saved Noah and his entire family. As children of God, learn from Noah's faith and obedience. How he kept his faith and kept God's commandments so that he not only became a righteous person before God but also became a blessing to his family.
